THE APPEAL
Offering the thrills of vintage motoring without the challenges of maintaining a classic car, a modern Morgan makes a great deal of sense. They’re an automotive greatest hits album, featuring all the best bits of driving an old car and so they’re a joy to drive and own.
Here we have a cherished Plus 4 which left the Malvern workshops in 2014. The vendor acquired it in 2020 from its original owner and we’re informed it has been garaged throughout its nine years on the road. With just 9,274 miles under its belt, this Morgan has accrued very little in the way of wear and has evidently been judiciously maintained both mechanically and cosmetically.
For those seeking a handsome Plus 4 with a great specification, well documented history and few miles on the odometer, this would be a most worthy candidate.
THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK
Left-hand drive High factory specification We’re informed that it has a current French technical inspection with no advisories Regularly maintained since new, with invoices and service stamps detailing services Two owners from new Acquired by the vendor in December 2020 Dry stored when not in use Two-sets of keys
THE INTERIOR
Regularly maintained with high-end cleaning / leather moisturising products Tobacco leather upholstery Chassis crossmembers at the passenger and driver's footwell level in stainless steel, with engraved Morgan wings. Stainless steel lock covers with the Morgan wings engraved Gloss finished walnut dashboard with engine turned aluminium instrument binacles Wood-rimmed Moto-Lita sports steering wheel Stainless steel steering wheel centre with the Morgan logo engraved in its centre All instruments and buttons working perfectly Small stainless steel rear-view mirror Navy blue carpet with tobacco piping Passenger reading lamp Elastic door storage compartments Round stainless steel gear knob Stainless steel door pillars Stainless steel door sills
Everything the driver interacts with is really tactile and evokes the spirit of vintage motoring.
A Moto-Lita steering wheel is a particular highlight and we adore the 1930s-style engine turned instrument binnacles. These and the walnut dashboard are in fantastic condition, with no wear or damage apparent and the vendor assures us that everything works correctly.
The tobacco upholstery is in impeccable order thanks to regular cleaning and moisturisation. There’s barely any wear to the seats, door cards or the leather covering the transmission tunnel. All the carpets present very well indeed, as does the inside of the folding roof.
The space behind the seats allows you to stow two travel bags, and if you add the luggage rack for a suitcase, long journeys with several pieces of luggage are eminently possible. A Morgan suitcase in corked aluminium is also included with the car.
THE EXTERIOR
The vendor informs us that the navy blue paintwork is flawless - free from any chips or scratches. No corrosion to the chassis.
Factory optional extras include:
The folding roof, the convertible top cover, the spare wheel cover, and the tonneau cover are in perfect condition, all made in mohair. Chrome spoked wheels Chrome honeycomb grille Aluminium bumpers Clear indicators Leather bonnet strap Large aluminium luggage rack Interior and exterior mirrors in stainless steel. Air deflectors in plexiglass on each side of the windshield.
This impeccably presented Morgan looks fantastic in navy blue, which is complemented by the brown mohair hood, spare wheel cover and tonneau.
The bodywork is immensely straight, free from corrosion, damage or any noticeable paint blemishes. The rear number plate was mounted under the bumper by the previous owner, although it has since been relocated to its original position.
The quick-fit soft-top system allows the roof to be fitted in a matter of seconds. The vendor states that it never suffers from water ingress, even when driving in heavy rain.
THE MECHANICS
2.0-litre four-cylinder Ford Gdi engine 156 horsepower stated from factory Five-speed manual gearbox Battery replaced in 2021 Mechanically original and unmodified Reportedly driving very well
Beneath its thoroughly vintage exterior, lies a thoroughly modern Ford 2.0-litre four-cylinder Gdi engine. With fuel injection, ECUs and all the other equipment modern engines rely on, it’s a reliable, powerful and low maintenance unit which is perfect for powering this car on long road trips without needing to lift the bonnet.
With regular servicing throughout its life and few miles on the odometer, this is a very fit example, and the vendor doesn’t report any issues.
SUMMARY
This very well presented Plus 4 is amongst the best examples we’ve seen. Properly maintained, used sparingly and in a great original specification, it’s one you won’t want to miss.
